Nigerian football journalist Ademola Victor has backed the Super Falcons to secure a convincing victory over Comoros in their 2028 Olympic Games qualifier, citing Nigeria’s superior quality, experience, and depth of talent.
Speaking to Softfootball during the Super Falcons’ final training session at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, Ademola shared his expectations ahead of the crucial double-header against the East African nation.
According to Ademola, qualifying for the Olympic Games is often more difficult for African teams than qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup because of the limited number of available slots.
“The Olympic qualifiers are a bit tougher compared to the World Cup itself. At the World Cup, Africa can have four, five or even six representatives, but for the Olympics, it’s just two teams.”
He noted that Nigeria understands the magnitude of the challenge, particularly after failing to secure a place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
While acknowledging Comoros’ impressive run to this stage of the qualifiers, Ademola believes the Super Falcons should have enough quality to overcome their opponents.
He explained that although Comoros recorded an impressive aggregate victory over Sudan in the previous round, facing Africa’s most successful women’s national team presents a completely different challenge.
One of the aspects that excites Ademola most is the mixture of established internationals and emerging talents within the current Super Falcons squad.
He pointed out that several young players from Nigeria’s youth national teams have been given opportunities to step up to the senior side.
Looking at this new blend of players, I feel like they understand what it takes, and I think they can get the result against Comoros.
The journalist is expecting Nigeria to dominate both matches and secure qualification without major difficulties.
I see Nigeria really winning this game. I see us defeating Comoros heavily in both legs.
With both fixtures scheduled to be played in Nigeria, Ademola believes the Super Falcons have an additional advantage.
I don’t see a small-margin victory. I see Nigeria defeating them with a wide margin.
Ademola also discussed the appointment of Augustine Eguavoen as interim head coach of the Super Falcons.
While recognizing that the former Super Eagles coach is relatively new to managing a senior women’s national team, he expressed confidence in Eguavoen’s ability to guide the team through the qualifiers.
He’s known within the NFF for years. This should be an easy game for him to get the job done.
According to Ademola, the key responsibility for the interim coach is selecting the right players and allowing them the freedom to perform.
His mission should be very clear: start the best players and let them do their magic on the pitch. Let them talk with the football on the pitch.
As Nigeria continues its pursuit of a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Ademola remains optimistic that the Super Falcons possess the quality needed to progress.
With a talented blend of youth and experience, strong home support, and one of Africa’s most successful football traditions behind them, he believes the team is well-positioned to take another step towards Olympic qualification.
