A Nigerian football fan has hailed the Super Falcons following their 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers, describing the result as the most important outcome despite concerns about the team’s finishing.
Speaking to Softfootball after the match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, the supporter commended the players for securing victory but admitted the performance, particularly in the first half, could have been more clinical.
“The Goal Is to Win”
The fan praised the team’s determination but felt Nigeria missed too many opportunities in the opening period.
“First of all, kudos to the girls. They really did well. Despite the fact that in the first half they were not clinical at all and kept missing a couple of chances.”
He also pointed to moments where the players appeared to overcomplicate attacking situations instead of taking quicker decisions in front of goal.
“They were trying to make unnecessary dribbles here and there, but the goal is to win the game. It doesn’t matter how you win the game, just win.”
Winning Is All That Matters
The supporter stressed that Nigerian fans are desperate to see the Super Falcons return to winning ways after the disappointment of missing out on qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
According to him, results matter more than performances at this stage of the qualification campaign.
“As a fan, as whoever in Nigeria, we just need them to win. We just want to win. That’s the most important thing.”
Confident Ahead of the Second Leg
With the return leg also scheduled to take place in Ikenne, the fan expressed strong confidence that the Super Falcons would finish the job and advance to the next round of the qualifiers.
He highlighted the atmosphere created by the supporters at the Remo Stars Stadium and believes home advantage will once again work in Nigeria’s favour.
“Playing Comoros here is a win for Nigeria. The Super Falcons will definitely qualify.”
The supporter was particularly impressed by the turnout of fans and the backing given to the team throughout the match.
“You can see the turnout. The fans gave the Falcons what they wanted.”
While admitting that football can sometimes be unpredictable, the fan was confident Nigeria would emerge victorious once again.
“I don’t like making predictions, but we will beat them comfortably. Comfortably, we will win.”
The Super Falcons took a major step towards qualification thanks to second-half goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu, which earned Nigeria a 2-0 victory in the first leg.
