Equatorial Guinean goalkeeper, Jesus Owono has been awarded the Sidi Ali Water Save of the Day at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Softfootball reports.
Although, Equatorial Guinea lost 3-1 to Algeria in their final Group E match, Owono’s point black save from that encounter did not go unnoticed as he capped a poor tournament with a brilliant end.

Equatorial Guinea failed to win any matches in Group E and finished with zero points, scoring just two goals and conceding a whopping six goals but despite the poor performance from the team but Jesus Owono was superb in goal.
CAF via its official X handle announced the award to recognize the brilliance of Jesus Owono. The short statement read:
Composed, alert, decisive. Jesús Owono’s standout stop claims the Sidi Ali Water Save of the Day. 🧤🇬🇶. TotalEnergiesAFCON2025
Interestingly, it was 36-year-old Egyptian goalkeeper, Mohamed El Shenawy that made it into the AFCON Group Stage XI but Jesus Owono’s save was so awesome that he couldn’t be ignored for the top save award.
