Jamie Carragher blasts Liverpool shambolic display despite victory over Newcastle

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has slammed his former club’s performance against the Magpies and believes they were undeserving of their win over Newcastle on Monday night who were somehow the much better side.

The Reds came away from St James’ Park with a 3-2 win thanks to a goal in the 100th minute from 16-year-old Ngumoha. But their performance was far from convincing, despite playing most of the game with a one-man advantage after Anthony Gordon was sent off.

Liverpool were 2-0 up just 20 seconds into the second half thanks to goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike. The Magpies fought back impressively, with Bruno Guimaraes’ header halving the deficit before Will Osula equalised in the 88th minute from Dan Burn’s flick-on.

Ngumoha bailed them out with a cool finish from Mohamed Salah’s pass after a clever dummy from Dominik Szoboszlai, but Carragher was in no mood to celebrate at the full-time whistle.

According to a post by Fabrizio Romano on his Facebook page, Jamie Carragher did not hold back in his assessment of the Reds’ latest display. Speaking after the match, Carragher described it as one of the worst performances you’ll ever see from a winning team. underline growing concerns over Liverpool’s inconsistency despite securing results. The post reads:

“Jamie Carragher: “What we’ve seen tonight is one of the WORST performances you’ll ever see from a winning team… and one of the BEST performances you’ll ever see from a losing team”.
“Newcastle were absolutely OUTSTANDING”.

Against Newcastle, the Reds conceded two goals from set play scenarios, failing to mark correctly and being outmuscled by the hosts in the air. Next up for Arne Slot’s side comes Arsenal, who will be desperate to secure an overdue win in the Premier League at Anfield.

Softfootball believes it will be a lively affair on Merseyside when two challengers for the Premier League title go head to head, but after seeing what unfolded at St James’ Park, Mikel Arteta’s squad will fancy their chances.
