Nigeria’s excellent run at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is getting everyone excited, including Isaac Fayose, brother to former 2-time Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Softfootball reports.

The Super Eagles beat Uganda 3-1 in their final match in Group C on Tuesday night to earn top spot with nine points after three wins from three matches, scoring eight goals and conceding four in the tournament so far.

Another fan, @eboseiyere wants Nigeria to be careful as he recalled the last time Nigeria had a perfect result at the group stage of an AFCON competition, it ended in early elimination.

The last time we had 9 points at an afcon group stage, we went on to crash out at the round of 16 so cheaply. I hope history does not repeat itself.

Mayor UTD felt its the best Super Eagles team he has seen and hailed the team for their feat so far.

This no doubt the best Super Eagles team we’ve watched play in years. The kind of team you take to a world cup tournament & return with pride. Unfortunately, because of greed & lack of discipline, they staged an unnecessary strike before crucial games & lost the chance to qualify.

Not every fan were carried away by the win as @FkayMooh, was displeased by the Super Eagles conceding cheap goals and warned against it in the knockout rounds.

Do you guys always have to concede? That’s how we managed to score a goal against Zimbabwe in the Wc qualifiers and conceded in the final minutes of the game, if we had won that game we would have qualified, same thing with Congo, we can’t afford to do this in the knockouts

@adefenwao added:

I just dey enjoy the energy!💪🏼 Na everything we wan dey win now, even with the match wey we no need😂…. Abeg this Super Eagles are now something else o👏🏼🔥

@_ibegbulam picked out striker, Paul Onuachu for special praise. The striker, who made his first start of the tournament scored Nigeria’s first goal before Raphael Onyedika added two more.

Paul Onuachu performance today is what got my attention better. Stronger on his feet, dropping deep to play and more. Good team play. It’s been long I see Nigeria play this way. Wonder why @ManUtd isn’t looking at Frank Onyedikachi who is doing well for Club Brugger and today.

Fans like @okor98874 missed the commanding influence of William Troost-Ekong in defence. He retired before the competition started

Great performance so far. But we need to watch our defence. Ekong’s absence due to retirement has not been effectively replaced. We need to look at our defence well. There are sleepages which could be more prevalent when we meet stronger teams.

Nigeria will now certainly meet the third-placed team in Group F, with both third-placed finishers in Groups A (Comoros) and B (Angola) already eliminated. This could be any of Cote d’Ivoire’s Elephants (Cup holders), Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions or the Mambas of Mozambique. The round of 16 fixture comes up on Monday, 5th January in Fès.
