Former Chelsea youth coach Jody Morris has praised Super Eagles defender Ola Aina, describing him as a technically gifted and versatile footballer with the ability to influence games even more.
Softfootball understands that Morris, who worked with Aina during his time in Chelsea’s academy, remains a huge admirer of the Nottingham Forest full-back and is delighted to see him thriving in the Premier League.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Morris reflected on Aina’s personality and development, describing the Nigerian international as someone he always enjoyed working with.
“I know Ola. He was a great kid, and he’s got a brilliant personality as well,” Morris said.
The former Swindon Town manager also cautioned against trying to suppress players’ individuality, insisting footballers should be allowed to express themselves naturally.
According to Morris, while discipline is important, there is a fine line between guiding a player and limiting the qualities that make them unique.
Turning his attention to Aina’s footballing attributes, Morris was full of praise for the defender’s versatility.
He highlighted Aina’s athleticism, describing him as an “absolute specimen,” while also pointing to his rare ability to play comfortably with both feet.
Morris believes the Super Eagles star possesses all the tools needed to dominate matches more consistently, adding that Aina has even more to offer because of the quality already in his game.
The former Chelsea coach admitted it gives him great satisfaction to watch former academy players succeed at the highest level.
“It’s always nice to see people you’ve built relationships with doing well,” Morris added.
