Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes Jose Mourinho is positioning himself for a sensational return to the Premier League.
Softfootball understands that Shearer made the remarks following Mourinho’s recent comments about the Turkish Super Lig, where the Portuguese tactician is currently in charge of Fenerbahce after previous spells with AS Roma and several top European clubs.
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer suggested Mourinho’s recent media appearances and outspoken comments indicate he could be preparing for another opportunity in English football.
The former England striker noted that Mourinho has always been a headline-maker, whether through winning trophies or making bold statements, adding that there is often a deeper message behind his public remarks.
Shearer also hinted that Mourinho’s recent links with Roma, whose owners are close to completing the purchase of Everton, could fuel speculation about his next destination.
He added that Mourinho’s impressive managerial record means many Premier League clubs would still be interested in him, despite his reputation for being outspoken and unafraid to challenge those within a club.
According to Shearer, he would not be surprised if the Portuguese manager returned to the Premier League within the next 12 months.
While Newcastle have often been mentioned because of Mourinho’s admiration for the club, Shearer insisted Eddie Howe fully deserves his position and is not under any immediate threat.
