Bayern Munich Honorary President Uli Hoeneß has openly criticised Newcastle United’s €90 million move for Nick Woltemade, calling the fee unrealistic and fueled by outside money, Softfootball reports.
Bayern and Stuttgart had both been in serious talks to sign the young German striker earlier in the window, but negotiations broke down before anything concrete could be agreed. That’s when Newcastle stepped in, moving quickly to seal a surprise deal that shocked many across Europe.

According to Top Football Journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, he confirmed the Bayern’s Honorary President spoke with a top news outlet had this to say about the woltemade deal to Newcastle, Romano posted;
Bayern’s Uli Hoeneß on Woltemade joining Newcastle: “Woltemade isn’t worth the €90m fee”.
“That only happened because of the money flowing from Saudi Arabia”, told Sport1 Dopa.
The comments reflect a growing frustration in Germany about inflated transfer prices and the Premier League’s financial muscle. Still, for Woltemade, the move represents a dream opportunity. Softfootball understands that the striker has already said he feels happy at Newcastle and is eager to show he belongs in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
For Newcastle fans, his arrival adds excitement and depth to their attack, while Bayern is left to wonder how close they really were to landing one of Germany’s brightest young forwards.
