Harry Kane Admits Ballon d’Or Needs Big Trophies, Not Just Goals Alone

3 Min Read

Harry Kane has stressed that individual awards like the Ballon d’Or are dependent on winning major trophies rather than scoring alone. Speaking after his recent performances in a post shared by Fabrizio Romano on his official X account, Kane highlighted that even scoring 100 goals in a season would not guarantee the Ballon d’Or if he fails to lift the Champions League or World Cup.

Fabrizio Romano posted:

Harry Kane: I could score 100 goals this season but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, you’re probably not going to win the Ballon d’Or. It’s the same with Haaland, with any player. You have to be winning those major trophies, told Mirror.

Kane’s comments come after his standout form for both Bayern Munich and England, with 23 goals in 17 appearances for Bayern and three in four matches for England. His performances in Bayern’s undefeated run and England’s 2-0 win over Albania underline his growing influence on the pitch. He also recently earned recognition as Bayern’s Player of the Month for October 2025 after a series of stellar performances, as reported by SoftFootball.

Kane remains focused on winning with his teams. He believes Bayern Munich and England’s continued success in domestic, European, and international competitions is key. Kane emphasised that team achievements elevate individual recognition.

He said:

If both teams continue their trajectory and lift major trophies, I will definitely be in the conversation.

England’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup and Bayern’s position at the top of the Bundesliga and Champions League group stage strengthen his case.

Kane also praised England’s evolving squad culture under Thomas Tuchel, contrasting it with the less cohesive setup under Lee Carsley in 2024. Players like Marc Guéhi have exemplified commitment by participating in team meetings even while injured. Kane views this unity as crucial for World Cup success.

He explained how representing his country is the highest honour and discussed tactical aspects such as set pieces and Phil Foden’s role as a false nine, highlighting his leadership growth.

In addition to team ambitions, Kane is closing in on Pelé’s record of 77 international goals, currently with 76 in 111 caps. He acknowledged the personal milestone but reinforced that collective success remains his priority. Kane said individual records are meaningful, but lifting trophies with club and country will define his legacy and Ballon d’Or chances.
