Happy 39th Birthday to Hugo Lloris, Tottenham Legend and World Cup Winner

Softfootball celebrates Hugo Lloris’s 39th birthday today, and it’s one of those birthdays that makes you pause for a second. Not because it feels like the end, but because he’s still very much here, still playing, still important.

Now with Los Angeles FC, reuniting with Tottenham teammate Son Heung-min, who recently joined Los Angeles FC too, the former France captain continues to show that goalkeepers, the really good ones, don’t follow normal rules about age.

The 2025 MLS season was proof enough. Lloris made 35 appearances, keeping 12 clean sheets. LAFC trusted him as their clear number one, and he repaid that trust week after week.

Long before the move to MLS, Lloris had already written his name deep into football history. He retired from international football in January 2023 as France’s most-capped player, finishing with 145 appearances.

He captained Les Bleus to World Cup glory in 2018, lifting the trophy in Russia, and then did it all again four years later by leading them to the final in Qatar.

At club level, his journey was just as heavy. Over a decade at Tottenham Hotspur, who recently lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest, brought 447 appearances and a Champions League final in 2019.

Before that, with Lyon, he won the Coupe de France in the 2011–12 season and collected three Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year awards.

Ligue 1 took time to wish him a happy birthday via their official X account.

They posted:

Goalkeeping legend. Happy Birthday, Hugo Lloris

His LAFC chapter is still growing. On December 4, 2025, Lloris signed a one-year extension through 2026, with an option for 2027. He also stepped in as team captain during the second half of the season after Aaron Long’s injury.

Away from football, Lloris keeps things simple. Family comes first, always has, and he continues to support children’s charities such as Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.

At 39, Hugo Lloris isn’t chasing a legacy. He already has one. He’s just quietly adding to it, one save at a time.
