Arsenal have named Viktor Gyökeres as their Men’s Player of the Month for January 2026 and it’s easy to see why.
The Swedish striker topped the fan vote with 48%, beating Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Zubimendi to the award. January was Gyökeres’ most productive month since arriving in north London, as he hit double figures for the season with four goals in six games across three competitions.
He made his mark in big moments too. Gyökeres scored at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea, found the net at the San Siro in a Champions League win over Inter Milan, and added two Premier League goals including a close-range finish in Arsenal’s 4–0 win over Leeds United.

For the season so far, Gyökeres has 12 goals and two assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. While some pundits, including Paul Merson, have debated his overall influence, Mikel Arteta has consistently praised the striker’s “terrific” defensive work and growing consistency in attack.
Gyökeres arrived at Arsenal in July 2025 in a big-money move from Sporting CP, with the deal worth an initial €63.5m plus add-ons.
He made his debut in pre-season against Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong, and while his adaptation hasn’t been without scrutiny, Softfootball note that he remains Arsenal’s top scorer this season.
After a strong January, the momentum is clearly with Gyökeres, and Arsenal will be hoping he carries that form into the business end of the campaign. The club also posted a video on their X handle showcasing Viktor’s performances throughout the month.
