The midfielder revealed that he often listens to music before matches, with Afrobeats among his preferred choices. However, his selection largely depends on his mood, as he explained that he has different ways of preparing himself for each game while maintaining the same overall routine.

One of the most important parts of his preparation is self-talk. Asked what he tells himself before heading through the tunnel and onto the pitch, Onyeka kept his message simple with one word.

“Focus.”

The Super Eagles star also revealed what he normally carries in his matchday bag, explaining that personal care items such as his cream are among the essentials he likes to have with him before and after a game.

Beyond the physical preparations, Onyeka confirmed that prayer is also part of his matchday routine, highlighting the importance of preparing himself mentally and spiritually before every match.

After the final whistle, the midfielder revealed that his wife is usually the first person he speaks to, offering an insight into what happens away from the football pitch once the game is over.

From music and affirmations to self-talk, prayer and his post-match routine, Onyeka provided SoftFootball with a closer look at the personal habits that form part of his preparation on matchday.
