Benjamin Pavard arrives in Marseille after his move on loan to OM from Inter on Deadline Day.
€16m buy option clause not mandatory, also included in the deal.
France international Benjamin Pavard has returned to his home country to join Marseille, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side also landing Matt O’Riley and Nayef Aguerd in a triple swoop.
De Zerbi enjoyed a successful first season with Marseille and wants to build on it in his season but they’ve surprisingly started poorly, losing two of their first three matches in Ligue 1 for the first time since 2015-16.
Marseille finished as runners-up last season behind Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) but their form at the start of this campaign has been below par, so they acted quickly to sign Pavard on transfer deadline day.
Pavard’s experience will be counted upon by manager, De Zerbi to turn around their season by keeping a solid defence and trusting the likes of Mason Greenwood and Pierre Aubameyang in attack to score the goals required.
The former Bayern Munich rose through the ranks at Lille before signing for Stuttgart in 2016, spending three years at Bundesliga outfit before joining Bayern Munich.
Pavard helped the Bavarians win four consecutive Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2019-20 before switching to Inter, where he won the Serie A in 2023-24 and finished as a runner-up in the UEFA Champions League last season.
