Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has ruled out any possibility of Marcus Rashford joining Arsenal on loan.
Softfootball gathered that Foster spoke on his podcast about the club’s decision-making process during the January transfer window, when reports suggested Arsenal were interested in the England international.
Instead, United sent Rashford to Aston Villa. Foster explained that while Villa was an acceptable destination, a move to North London was never on the table due to the historic rivalry. He said:
Man Utd would never loan him to Arsenal (in January), never in a million years. They’re not going to send him (now). Even if Marcus Rashford kicks off massively.
The former keeper emphasized the distinction between sending a player to a competitor like Villa versus a direct rival like Arsenal. He added:
Manchester United would never, ever, ever send him to Arsenal, never in a million years. Happily send him to Villa. It’s that next rung down. They’re never sending him to Arsenal, I guarantee you that.
Foster’s comments highlight the sensitive nature of transfers between Old Trafford and the Emirates. For United, strengthening a team they compete with directly for top-four positions remains a red line, regardless of the player’s current form or future at the club.
