Former Super Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi has officially begun his coaching career after being appointed Youth Team Coach at Rangers International.
The 36-year-old recently completed his coaching certification in South Africa before returning to Nigeria to take up the role at his boyhood club.
Uzoenyi enjoyed a distinguished playing career, winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles under the late Stephen Keshi. He was also part of Nigeria’s bronze medal-winning squad at the 2014 African Nations Championship and featured in the country’s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
His club career saw him represent Rangers, Enyimba, Sunshine Stars, Rennes, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits, Ajax Cape Town and Zvijezda 09, collecting several domestic and continental honours along the way.
Softfootball understands that Uzoenyi will oversee Rangers’ Under-15, Under-13 and Under-10 teams, focusing on nurturing the next generation of football talents.
The former winger expressed his excitement at beginning his coaching journey with the club where his football career started, describing it as the perfect place to give back to the game by helping develop young players.
Before retiring from professional football in 2023, Uzoenyi won two Nigeria Premier Football League titles and a Federation Cup with Enyimba, as well as two South African Premier Soccer League titles and the 2016 CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns.
