Former Manchester United player Eriksen set to start life in Germany

After an illustrious life and career across top leagues in Europe, former Manchester United player and Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has been speculated to start a new life in Germany.

Softfootball was able to gather that Wolfsburg is on the verge of securing the signature of Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, with negotiations understood to be at the final stages.

The Danish international, who left Manchester United at the end of June after two seasons at Old Trafford, having won the FA Cup and Carabao, is now set for a new chapter in the Bundesliga.

According to Fabrizio Romano on his X handle, he stated that discussions have accelerated in recent days, with Wolfsburg eager to finalise the move and bring the 32-year-old midfielder into Ralph Hasenhüttl’s squad before the end of the international break.

Negotiations at final stages to bring Eriksen to the club after he left Man United in June.

Just as his former colleague and free agent, Victor Lindelof, had just landed at Aston Villa last week following the expiration of his contract with Manchester United, Eriksen is also weighing options to join a top-flight side not in England, as the German side sees him as a key factor for them to earn a Europa League ticket.

Wolfsburg finished 11th last season, and they will be seeking to bounce back to the European competition after a three-year hiatus. The last time Wolfsburg played on the continent was in 2022.

Eriksen made 72 appearances for United in all competitions, providing a mix of creativity and experience in midfield under both managers; Erik ten Hag and, lately, Ruben Amorim. However, recurring injuries limited his influence last season, with the Premier League side opting not to renew his deal. His departure left the playmaker assessing several options across Europe before Wolfsburg emerged as the frontrunner for his signature.

A move to Germany would mark Eriksen’s first spell in the Bundesliga, having previously represented Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Brentford during a distinguished career. He also boasts over 130 caps for Denmark and remains an influential figure at the international level for his country.
