Former England star urges Man United, Arsenal to sign Wissa

Former England international, Stuart Pearce has urged Manchester United and Arsenal to sign Brentford forward, Yoane Wissa this summer, Softfootball reports.

Wissa became the main striker for Brentford when Ivan Toney left the club for Saudi Arabia and he hasn’t disappointed, scoring 20 goals in all competition last season.

According to Metro UK, the Brentford star may cost any club that wants to sign him £50m, £20m less than what the Bees want for strike partner Bryan Mbeumo who is strongly linked to Manchester United this summer.

Wissa was linked to Tottenham last month as Spurs new Coach Thomas Frank was hoping for a reunion. Pearce believes that the DR Congo forward would be a ‘major asset’ for the likes of the Red Devils and Gunners if they were to recruit him in the current summer transfer window.

Stuart Pearce said:

“There’s no doubt Manchester United and Arsenal would have been looking at Yoane Wissa.

“When you look at the season he had last year, he was magnificent. The goals he’s delivered while playing with width and playing down the middle as well.

“That’s a major asset for any football club and the fact that Nottingham Forest have moved the odd player on recently, along with other sides in the division, you would think that by the time the season starts, he might well have moved on [from Brentford].”

Throughout his career, Pearce was given the nickname of “Psycho” for his unforgiving style of play. This was initially a tag afforded to him only by Forest fans, though later it was adopted by England supporters as well.

Pearce later said of the nickname:

“The Psycho nickname was just a bit of fun. In the 80s everyone was called Psycho or Rambo. It doesn’t represent what I’m like away from football.

“You’ve got to be a bit more cute than that. If you’re an idiot and try to live up to your nickname, you won’t last very long. I’d like to think there’s a little more about me than that.

“A lot of journalists were pigeonholing me as a lunatic who shouldn’t represent England because I’d get sent off all the time.

“But in 78 games for England I’ve been booked five times and never been sent off. I’ve only been sent off three times playing for my club, which in this day and age is quite an achievement.”

Softfootball reported earlier that Tottenham wanted to add Wissa to their squad despite signing Mohammed Kudus. Wissa is expected to be available for Brentford this season if no club meets his valuation.

Wissa has scored 45 goals with 13 assists in 137 Premier League appearances for Brentford.
