Paulo Fonseca insisted he remained fully focused on his job at AC Milan despite growing speculation linking Sérgio Conceição with the managerial position.
Pressure mounted on the Portuguese coach following Milan’s disappointing 1-1 Serie A draw against Roma, with reports in Italy suggesting the club had already identified Conceição as his replacement.
Softfootball understands Fonseca remained calm when questioned about his future, insisting he had received no indication from the club that his position was under threat.
Speaking after the match, he said:
I have no signal to suggest otherwise. I will go home now, spend time with my family and be back ready to work tomorrow.
The former Lille manager refused to be drawn into discussions about potential successors.
I can’t imagine things I don’t know, or talk about other coaches. I don’t think it’s right,
he added.
Fonseca also defended the work he has done since taking charge in the summer, saying:
I would do everything I’ve done so far again.
Despite his confidence, Milan would officially part ways with the Portuguese coach less than 24 hours later, appointing former Porto boss Sérgio Conceição as his successor.
