Paulo Fonseca didn’t hide his frustration after AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat to Atalanta on Friday, laying the blame squarely on the referee’s decisions throughout the match.
The Milan boss was booked for dissent after the opening goal, having felt Charles De Ketelaere fouled Theo Hernandez before heading in Marten de Roon’s free kick.
Things went from bad to worse for Milan, who lost Christian Pulisic to a calf injury before Ademola Lookman was left unmarked to nod in the winning goal from a corner.
He said:
I have always been quiet about the referee, but others talk. Today I am the one who am tired of staying quiet and watching what happens.
Fonseca didn’t stop there, insisting the pattern of decisions against Milan has become impossible to ignore. He added:
The first goal was a clear foul, there are absolutely no doubts. The way the referee officiated throughout was against Milan, there are no doubts.
Softfootball reports that the coach went further still, suggesting his club has been treated differently compared to others across multiple matches this season, not just Friday’s defeat.
