Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their impressive start to the 2026 WAFU B U‑17 Girls’ Cup with a thrilling 4–2 victory over Ghana in the Jollof Derby.
Despite playing the final stages with 10 players, the Flamingos maintained control and showed tremendous character to secure another three points.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, giving Nigeria the advantage. Captain Harmony Chidi doubled the lead in first‑half stoppage time, sending the Flamingos into the break 2–0 up.
Nigeria’s task became more difficult in the 59th minute when Elizabeth Adesuyi received a straight red card. Ghana immediately capitalised, with Seidatu Wahab pulling one back in the 62nd minute.
Rather than allowing Ghana to build momentum, Nigeria responded with authority. Mary Dunstan restored the two‑goal cushion in the 70th minute, before Kaosarat Akanji produced a superb free‑kick finish in the 87th minute to make it 4–1.
Ghana scored again in the 90th minute through Gloria A. Ameaa, but the late goal was not enough as Nigeria held on for a convincing 4–2 win.
The Flamingos dominated large periods of the match, creating chances even after going down to 10 players. Their composure and control proved decisive in securing victory in the Jollof Derby.
The result gives Nigeria two wins from two matches, strengthening their position in the 2026 WAFU B U‑17 Girls’ Cup.
