Fiorentina are edging closer to completing the signing of Portuguese right-back João Mário from Juventus, with negotiations now in the final stages.

Softfootball understands that the proposed agreement is structured as an initial loan with an option to buy, fitting Juventus’ ongoing strategy of reshaping their squad by moving fringe players during the summer transfer window.

The purchase option is expected to be worth between €8 million and €9 million, giving Fiorentina the opportunity to evaluate the defender before making the move permanent.

João Mário joined Juventus from Porto in July 2025 in a deal worth around €12 million but struggled to establish himself in Turin, making just 13 first-team appearances.

The move represents a low-risk investment for Fiorentina as they continue strengthening the squad under their new manager ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

For Juventus, the deal is another step in streamlining the squad and creating room for further arrivals while reducing the wage bill. The club has already sanctioned several departures this summer as part of its rebuilding plans.

If the final details are completed as expected, João Mário will become one of Fiorentina’s latest additions, bringing Serie A experience, versatility and attacking quality to the club’s defensive options.
