Ferran Torres Shines as Barcelona Defeat Getafe 3-0 to Stay Close to Real Madrid

Barcelona extended their strong home form with a commanding 3-0 win over Getafe CF in LaLiga on Sunday, at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. The victory means Barça have now won 11 of their last 13 home league matches, keeping them second in the table, just two points behind leaders Real Madrid after five games.

Softfootball reported in the game’s preview that Barcelona were heavy favourites for another league home win, and Ferran Torres was the star of the night, scoring twice in the first half. His opener came after a brilliant link-up between Raphinha and Dani Olmo, who combined with a clever backheel to set him up.

The second arrived minutes later when a long ball exposed Getafe’s defence, leaving Raphinha to provide the assist for Torres to finish calmly past David Soria. Torres nearly had a hat-trick before the break, rattling the crossbar with a fierce effort, while Robert Lewandowski and Olmo also came close.

Getafe, who have made their best start to a LaLiga season in years, threatened sporadically. Javi Muñoz fired narrowly wide early in the second half, and Domingos Duarte’s free header forced Barça goalkeeper Joan García into action. But their hopes were ended when substitute Marcus Rashford burst forward and squared for Olmo, who drilled in the third to seal the contest.

After game, Barcelona paid tribute to Ferran Torres on the team’s official X handle, referring to the striker’s nickname “The Shark” in their appreciation post.

The Catalans controlled much of the game, just like in the 2-1 victory against Newcastle in the Champions League, despite torrential rain making conditions tricky, and their defensive discipline earned them a third clean sheet in five LaLiga matches no team has matched that record so far this season.

For Getafe, it was another frustrating trip to Catalonia. They remain winless away to Barcelona in LaLiga history, losing 18 and drawing four of their 22 visits. Still, their effort and defensive grit were evident, even if Barcelona’s attacking quality ultimately proved too much.
