Ferdinand Credits Amorim for Unlocking Casemiro–Bruno Partnership at Manchester United

Manchester United’s resurgence under Ruben Amorim is starting to look like more than just a short burst of good form. A 4–2 win over Brighton on October 25, 2025, sealed their third straight Premier League victory, lifting them into the top four, a spot they hadn’t reached this deep into the season in quite some time.

Softfootball understands that much of that turnaround has come down to one thing: balance in midfield. Amorim has managed to revive the partnership between Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, which had struggled badly for consistency over the past year.

Speaking on Vibe with Five in a video uploaded via their official X handle, Rio Ferdinand praised Amorim’s tactical adjustments, highlighting how the Portuguese manager has tightened United’s shape and restored discipline across the pitch when asked by the moderator about why both players are now Pivotal to the resurgence under ruben Amorim

Ferdinand said:

Because we aren’t allowing transitions. And I think the manager has to take credit for that—he’s tweaked it up. We were trying to go high against teams, to win the ball almost around their penalty area.

You had Bruno up there, you had Casemiro up there, and I’ve said from the beginning—Casemiro’s game isn’t about chasing high up the pitch constantly.
He built a stellar career, a five-time Champions League-winning career, on being the glue—the one that knits the back line and the midfield together.

Under Amorim, United’s pressing is now sharper and smarter. Forwards like Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount, and Bryan Mbeumo track back diligently, cutting out counterattacks before they develop. That discipline allows Bruno Fernandes more freedom to create in the final third while Casemiro stays deeper, shielding the defence and dictating tempo.

Another clever tweak has seen Luke Shaw occasionally step into midfield from his left centre-back role, forming a compact three-man base that gives United stability in central areas, and with Bruno Fernandes confirming that he is 100 per cent staying at Manchester United, then the club faithfuls can begin to dream of a blossoming midfield.

The result is a team that looks structured, confident, and dangerous in transition. Amorim’s version of United doesn’t just keep possession; it presses, breaks quickly, and plays with intent, and we are just beginning to see the template of Ruben Amorim’s football.

For the first time in a while, Manchester United look like a side with both a plan and the belief to see it through.
