Eze wants Tottenham amidst Arsenal’s interest

Tottenham Hotspur are currently emerging as a strong contender for Eberechi Eze’s signature, with the Crystal Palace midfielder understood to have informed his club of his desire to play UEFA Champions League football next season.

This follows Arsenal’s interest in signing the Palace player. Although the Gunners have been quiet lately after bringing Noni Madueke to the Emirates from Chelsea last July.

Softfootball gathered that Spurs have stepped up efforts to secure the 26-year-old, who enjoyed an impressive campaign at Selhurst Park, winning both the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

The player’s camp has made it clear to Palace that the lure of European elite competition is a major factor in his thinking as Tottenham prepare for life back in the Champions League under Thomas Frank.

Meanwhile, Tottenham also want Eze badly, seeing that they are suffering from injury woes ahead of the new season. James Maddison has been ruled out of the yet-to-begin season with other pending injuries affecting the club.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his verified X handle, he indicated Eze’s interest in the North London side.

Fabrizio wrote:

“Eberechi Eze, keen on Tottenham move as Palace are informed of his desire to play Champions League football.

“Deal now depends on club to club talks but Spurs are seriously working on it, as reported earlier.”

The transfer now hinges on direct talks between the two clubs. The Palace is yet to grant formal permission for negotiations over a fee, but Spurs remain optimistic of reaching an agreement before the close of the window.

Eze, who joined Palace from Queens Park Rangers in 2020, has been a consistent creative force in midfield, combining technical skill with a strong goal-scoring record from deep positions.

The England midfielder was influential in Palace’s FA Cup success last season, although they missed out on a UEFA Europa League spot to Nottingham Forest, but will be playing in the UEFA Conference League. Eze also helped the Eagles defeat Liverpool to win their first-ever Community Shield title.
