Burnley head coach spoke ahead of their upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest as reported by burnley via their youtube channel, addressing injuries, squad depth, recent form, and the pressure of a tough Premier League run in. The press conference comes after Burnley were defeated by Brighton & Hove Albion, while their earlier draw against Chelsea raised questions about consistency and progress, as highlighted by SoftFootball.

On team news, the manager confirmed returns and absences:

Yeah, Josh Brownhill is obviously back. Hannibal is edging closer but will miss this weekend. Hopefully maybe towards Leeds he comes back. Connor Roberts still not available. Zeke is moving in the right direction but we’ll have to make a call on that. That’s where it probably is.

Reflecting on controversial decisions in their last match, he admitted frustration but accepted the outcome:

Yeah, look, as always, I think I referenced it after the game. If it’s offside, it’s offside. You just like to think there’s a margin of error in terms of when the ball is played, but factually it’s offside. It was disappointing and frustrating at the time.

On squad rotation and searching for results, he explained the ongoing challenge:

Of course there’s frustration from everyone. You’re trying different things, personnel changes, systems, sometimes a five, sometimes a four. When you’re not getting results, you’re searching for something that can give you an edge. We’ve been competitive in games but just fallen short.

Looking ahead to Nottingham Forest, he stressed the difficulty of the fixture:

They are a strong side, well coached, a different manager now, and they’re fighting for their lives. It’s a big challenge for both teams and we need to be prepared for what we will face.

On the pressure of the relegation battle and realism around their situation, he added:

There’s a realism for sure. Every game now is must-win. We understand the situation we are in. But we don’t dwell on it. We have six games left and six opportunities to go and get wins.

He also reflected on the mental demands of Premier League football:

It becomes a mental challenge as much as anything. Players are not used to losing games. The Premier League is now very physical, very intense, almost man-to-man football. That mental side has been one of the biggest challenges this season.
