New Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed that the opportunity to manage Nigeria was too important to reject after officially accepting the position.
The 47-year-old leaves Algerian club MC Oran after overseeing his final match, bringing an emotional end to his time with the club before embarking on a new challenge.
Chelle guided MC Oran to a 1-0 Algeria Cup victory over ES Setif in his farewell game before saying goodbye to the supporters.
Softfootball reports that the former Mali coach received strong backing during his time in Algeria and expressed his appreciation before departing for Nigeria.
Speaking after the match, Chelle said:
I thank the Hamraoua fans, the inhabitants of Oran and all Algerians for their welcome and their support. The MCO will always have a special place in my heart. This is my last meeting with you and it marks the end of my adventure here.
He also explained his decision by saying:
One cannot refuse to lead one of the best teams in Africa and the world.
Chelle will officially begin work with Nigeria this week.
