Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has insisted that he is the right man to lead Nigeria despite the criticism that followed his appointment. The Malian coach says he understands the pressure that comes with managing one of Africa’s biggest national teams and is confident his results will eventually prove his ability.
Chelle was unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation last week after being appointed to replace Finidi George. Softfootball reports that his arrival was met with resistance from some Nigerian fans and football pundits who questioned his experience and suitability for the role.
Responding to his critics, Chelle said:
Already, there are a lot of people who say that I don’t have much experience. But ultimately, I do have experience. I ended my career in 2014, and I’ve been coaching since that year.
He also declared:
Now, my results and the team’s results will speak for me.
The 47-year-old believes his coaching experience in Africa and his football philosophy will help him build a strong relationship with the Super Eagles players as he begins his tenure.
Chelle also acknowledged the pressure attached to his new position but said he is ready to embrace the challenge as Nigeria aims to improve its fortunes.
