Reports reaching Softfootball suggest that Egyptian Football Association President Hany Abo Rida has officially filed a complaint against French referee François Letexier and his assistants following Egypt’s dramatic 3–2 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Abo Rida demanded a full investigation into what he described as controversial decisions made against the Pharaohs. He also formally requested that the French refereeing team be excluded from the remainder of the tournament due to what he believes were crucial mistakes that influenced the match.
This development comes after Argentina faced heavy criticism from the Egyptian side. Softfootball had earlier reported that:
- Egypt manager Hossam Hassan claimed his team were treated unfairly, insisting the match lacked sporting fairness.
- Egypt forward Mostafa Ziko voiced frustration, accusing the officials of unfair officiating during the dramatic 3–2 defeat.
Egypt had led 2–0 before conceding three goals in ten minutes, a collapse that has intensified the anger and controversy surrounding the officiating.
