Nasarawa United Technical Adviser Kabiru Dogo believes his side’s disappointing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign has been largely down to misfortune rather than poor performances.
Softfootball understands that the Solid Miners suffered another heartbreaking defeat after losing 3-2 to Heartland in Sunday’s Matchday 15 encounter at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
Nasarawa looked set to claim their first away point of the season when Garba Abubakar fired them into a 2-1 lead in the 86th minute. However, their joy was short-lived as Suraj Lawal equalised two minutes later before Christian Molokwu struck deep into stoppage time to hand Heartland all three points.
Reacting after the dramatic defeat, Dogo praised the quality of the contest and congratulated Heartland on the victory, while also acknowledging the improvements made at the Imo State club.
Despite the defeat, the experienced coach insisted his players have consistently performed well throughout the campaign but have been denied results by bad luck.
According to Dogo, Nasarawa United have not played poorly in any of their matches this season and deserve more points than they currently have.
The coach expressed hope that fortune would eventually smile on his team as they continue battling to climb away from the foot of the league table.
The defeat leaves Nasarawa United rooted to the bottom of the NPFL standings with 15 points from 15 matches.
They will have an immediate opportunity to revive their campaign when they host regional rivals Lobi Stars in a crucial North Central derby on Matchday 16, with both sides desperate to move clear of the relegation zone.
