Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has once again reopened the door to what many fans already see as destiny: managing Inter Milan.
Softfootball reports that he granted a pre-match interview ahead of Atletico’s clash against Inter Milan in the Champions League tomorrow, where he touched on a host of topics.

Speaking with a calm kind of certainty, as revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, the Atletico Madrid coach said that coaching Inter Milan is based on many factors, which may be due to his commitment to Atletico Madrid.
However, the Argentine tactician who recently led the Madrid-based team to a narrow 1-nil victory against Getafe did not rule out or shy away from the possibility of coaching the Italian giants someday.
Fabrizio tweeted:
Diego Simeone: It doesn’t depend on just me, but in my coaching career I can imagine myself managing Inter one day.
I think it will happen one day.
For Simeone, this isn’t a new dream. He played for Inter from 1997 to 1999 and has never really hidden how emotional that chapter was for him. His ties to the city run deeper than football, his wife and children still live in Milan, and he’s often admitted that being close to them influences his long-term thinking.
Even though Simeone’s contract at Atletico runs until 2027, the rumours haven’t stopped. Speculation really heated up around mid-2025 when Italian and Spanish media suggested he could be a serious candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi, especially after whispers of Inzaghi being tempted by a Saudi Pro League offer as at then.
Italian Media outlets described Simeone as a dream choice for Inter’s board, someone who understands the club’s spirit almost instinctively.

Still, Simeone insists he remains committed to Atletico Madrid, the club where he’s built a decade-long era of discipline and identity. But he’s never pretended Inter isn’t special. Back in 2016, he openly said that his kids, his wife and his dad all know that one day he will coach Inter.
Now, with Inter possibly entering a transitional moment in the coming seasons, the idea of Simeone’s return feels less like fantasy and more like something waiting for the right timing. And judging by his own words, even he believes that day isn’t as far away as it once seemed.
