Arsenal began the match as the favorites despite dropping points in their last premier league match when they drew 2-2 against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Declan Rice went close to scoring in the opening three minutes of the encounter but his efforts was saved.

However, the Gunners eventually took the lead when Spanish midfielder, Mikel Merino found Belgium international Leandro Trossard inside the Spurs box and his deflected shot went in to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead.
