Softfootball understands that Brennan Johnson looks set to become a Crystal Palace player, with his proposed move from Tottenham Hotspur now moving into the final stretch. Spurs have given the Welsh winger the green light to speak directly with Palace, as reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account.
He posted:
Brennan Johnson and Crystal Palace, deal at final stages as Tottenham gives permission to the player to discuss personal terms with CPFC. Medical could follow next, as Brennan Johnson will NOT be in Spurs squad to face Brentford. Palace are on it. Here we go, soon.
Johnson being left out of Tottenham’s squad for the Brentford match today has only added fuel to the speculation. It’s rarely a coincidence, and this feels no different.

A fee has already been agreed upon between Palace and Spurs. What remains is Johnson ironing out personal terms and sitting down with Palace boss Oliver Glasner.
Reports suggest that the meeting is expected to take place today, where discussions will centre on how Johnson fits into Glasner’s plans and what Palace are trying to build; that conversation matters more than anything else.

Johnson was Tottenham’s top scorer last season, netting 18 goals across competitions. Still, his role has reduced under new manager Thomas Frank, with Mohamed Kudus now favoured on the right.
Crystal Palace is pushing to wrap things up within 24 hours, with a medical already being lined up. If completed in time, Palace hopes Johnson can feature against Newcastle United on Sunday. The deal would also break the club’s transfer record, surpassing the £32.5 million spent on Christian Benteke back in 2016.

For Palace, Johnson, who has also recently been linked to Bournemouth, arrives at a key moment. Eberechi Eze has moved on to Arsenal, Ismaïla Sarr is away at AFCON, and goals are needed. Under Glasner’s attacking setup, there’s a sense Johnson could thrive again. Not instantly, maybe, but soon enough.
