AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta has placed the blame for the club’s Champions League exit on the players rather than head coach Sergio Conceição. The Rossoneri were eliminated by Feyenoord after a 1-1 draw, with Costacurta highlighting poor individual performances as the primary cause. Softfootball reports that he specifically criticized Samuel Chukwueze and Theo Hernandez for their costly errors.
Costacurta argued that Conceição made no mistakes in his team selection and that the responsibility lies with the squad.
He pointed to Hernandez’s red card and general defensive lapses as unacceptable at this level, describing the Frenchman’s season as perhaps the worst of his career due to these repeated blunders.
The former defender explained his view by stating:
It’s not unreasonable to say that the blame for Milan’s elimination from the Champions League falls on Theo Hernandez. It’s not Conceicao’s fault, who, in my opinion, didn’t make a mistake in his team selection. The mistakes were made by the players.
