Club Brugge are preparing a January bid to sign Southampton striker Paul Onuachu on a permanent basis, according to reports emerging from Belgium, as the Nigerian international’s future at St Mary’s continues to look uncertain.
Softfootball understands, via Voetbalkrant, that the Belgian Pro League champions are keen on bringing Onuachu back to Belgian football, a country where he remains a well-known figure having spent five years with Brugge’s fierce rivals, KRC Genk.

During his time at Genk, the lanky striker scored an impressive 85 goals in 134 appearances, numbers that established him as one of the most feared forwards in the league before his move to England.
Onuachu has struggled for regular playing time since arriving at Southampton, a situation that led to a loan spell at Turkish side Trabzonspor last season, despite the Saints’ reluctance to part with him permanently at that stage.
With game time still hard to come by on the south coast, a permanent exit when the January window reopens now looks increasingly likely for the 30-year-old.
