Christian Norgaard becomes Arsenal’s 3rd signing of the season

Arsenal are advancing in their hunger to add quality to the squad ahead of next season as Softfootball have been notified that the Gunners have sealed the deal to sign Brentford captain, Christian Norgaard.

In the early hours of Tuesday, it was reported that Norgaard’s switch to the Emirates Stadium is to be finalised after Brentford accepted Arsenal’s offers and clear the player to join after medicals have passed and papers have been signed.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal will pay an initial £10m fee for the Denmark international with a further £2m in add ons. The 31-year-old will strengthen Arteta’s midfield with proven Premier League experience and leadership qualities as he is deemed to replacing just exited Ghana man Thomas Partey in midfield.

Norgaard joined Brentford in 2019 and was hugely influential in their rise to the Premier League as he helped the club secure promotion in 2021 and making a total of 196 appearances for Brentford. The Danish was appointed Brentford captain by former Bees and now Tottenham boss Thomas Frank in 2023.

The former Bees scored 13 goals and made 18 assists in his 6 year spell with the London club. Norgaard had earlier extend his contract with Brentford for two years because he did not want to leave London amid interest from Benfica but has now made a super move to a bigger club in London.

Arsenal had signed Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi so far in the transfer window and Softfootball understands that the Gunners are pressing forward to sign Swedish striker, Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal’s preference for Viktor Gyokeres over Benjamin Sesko has been explained, with a defining moment identified where the club’s transfer focus became unmistakably clear.

Arsenal’s pursuit of a new No.9 this summer hasn’t been just about filling a gap, it’s been about finding the perfect striker to spearhead their title charge. While Benjamin Sesko was once firmly in the frame, the Gunners have now turned their focus to Viktor Gyokeres, and for good reason.
