Chelsea have reportedly completed an agreement with Marc Cucurella over new deal with the left back viewed as a key part of the long term project at Stamford Bridge.
Softfootball understands that the Spain international has three years remaining on his current deal after signing a six-year contract upon his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, but he has now agreed fresh terms with the Blues.
The 27-year-old had a rocky start at Chelsea and was even booed by the Blues supporters, but after finishing the 2023/2024 campaign strongly and shining for Spain at Euro 2024 Cucurella hasn’t looked back.
The Spaniard went to another level last season under Enzo Maresca, and established himself as one of Chelsea’s most important players.
The left back was a real threat in the attacking third, and scored important goals last season, including the crucial winner against Manchester United. He is an attack-minded player who’s impossible to pin down with the positions he takes up on the pitch.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed via his X handle that Chelsea have finalised a new contract agreement with Marc Cucurella. The Spanish defender is regarded by the club as a vital figure on the pitch, a leader off it, and a key component in both their present ambitions and long-term plans. He tweeted:
“EXCL: Chelsea have now completed the agreement with Marc Cucurella over new deal.
Seen as key player on the pitch, leader off the pitch and really important for present/future.
New contract is signed and sealed for Cucurella at #CFC”.
Cucurella had been strangely linked with a move to Saudi side Al-Nassr, which has subsequently been shut down. The 27-year-old scored seven goals and provided four assists in 54 appearances across all competitions last season, and he established himself as one of the most important players in Enzo Maresca’s system.
