Chelsea Dismiss Donnarumma Links, Focus on Cucurella and Hato Plans

Chelsea have no interest in signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, despite growing speculation around the Italian goalkeeper’s future. Donnarumma is in the final year of his contract, and Softfootball understands that the Italian goalie is reluctant to extend his stay at PSG.

The Blues, however, appear content with Robert Sánchez, particularly after his impressive showing at the Club World Cup. Internally, the club continues to back Sánchez, but doubts remain following a season littered with costly errors and inconsistent distribution.

Chelsea’s previous attempt to lure Mike Maignan from AC Milan is seen as evidence that the door remains open for change between the posts.

In more concrete developments, Chelsea are preparing a new long-term deal for Marc Cucurella. The Spanish full-back, who was the club’s most-used outfield player last season with 54 appearances, has firmly won over the coaching staff and is considered central to Enzo Maresca’s tactical plans.

While reports recently linked Cucurella with a potential move to Al-Nassr, Chelsea sources insist there have been no talks, and the player is focused on staying. The club sees Cucurella as a long-term asset but is also aware of the physical toll his workload could take, especially with Champions League commitments returning this season.

Sports Journalist and Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, reported via his official X handle that the blues want to offer the Spanish fullback a new deal and wrap up the signing of Jorrel Hato.

He wrote:

“EXCL: Chelsea plan to offer new deal to Marc Cucurella, key part of the long term project.

“Al Nassr links not confirmed, no talks as #CFC see Cucurella as important player.

“Jorrel Hato would be back up at LB and also key addition as centre back.”

That awareness has influenced Chelsea’s push to finalize a deal for Ajax’s Jorrel Hato. The 18-year-old, who can operate at both left-back and centre-back, is viewed as vital squad depth to ease pressure on Cucurella and solidify the defensive line.

With depth in midfield already covered through the likes of Caicedo, Palmer, and Fernández, Chelsea’s recruitment is now focused on plugging the few remaining gaps, and left-back is near the top of that list.
