Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano, with the Spanish left-back putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
The deal is worth €19 million in fixed fees, with additional add-ons included in the agreement. Chavarria becomes another important addition to Xabi Alonso’s squad as Chelsea strengthen their options ahead of the new season.
Speaking after completing the move, Chavarria described his arrival at Chelsea as a dream and revealed that Alonso played an important role in convincing him to make the switch.
“This is a dream for me as Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is a big opportunity but I am prepared and will work hard to help the team achieve success.”
The 27-year-old also made his admiration for Alonso clear, saying:
I spoke with Xabi. I’m here thanks to Xabi. For me, he’s one of the best coaches right now.
Softfootball had already reported the agreement on August 7, 2026, revealing that Chelsea had reached an agreement with Rayo Vallecano for Chavarria in a deal worth €19 million in guaranteed fees plus €2 million in add-ons, with further performance-related bonuses also included.
Chavarria’s arrival provides valuable depth at left-back and gives Alonso another experienced option for his defensive setup. His familiarity with Spanish football should also help him adapt quickly to the demands of his new manager.
With the transfer now officially completed, Chavarria can begin the next chapter of his career in west London as Chelsea continue building an ambitious squad under Alonso.
