Chelsea captain targets more silverware as 2025/26 season begins

Chelsea were the biggest English side last season, recording two outstanding club’s maiden trophies, the Conference League and Club World Cup.

This all came despite the underrating given to the Enzo Maresca side, which missed the Champions League spot the season before and is undergoing ongoing restructuring.

Having shocked many football fans, Chelsea’s captain has reassured that more is to come from the magical wand of the London club. As gathered by Softfootball, who followed James’ interview with Chelsea’s media, in which he expressed the intention of the club for the upcoming season.

In his words, James said the club’s recent trophy wins have only sharpened his hunger for more success as the Blues prepare for the new season under renewed optimism.

James lifted his first silverware as captain last term, helping Chelsea to victory in both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. The 25-year-old insists those triumphs are just the beginning.

Here is an excerpt of what James told Chelsea media:

“This season we are going to be ambitious.

“We’re in a good position. We want to compete at the highest level and win the competitions we’re in. We’re preparing the best we can.”

Chelsea has welcomed several new arrivals this summer, with the club still anticipating striking a deal for the duo of players Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, whom the Blues have heavily invested in in recent times.

Meanwhile, James believes the already added players, like Gustavo, will double the depth and can help push the team closer to its targets. He said:

“It’s early days, but they’re great additions to the squad. We have good depth this year, and we hope to go close.”

With Champions League football back at Stamford Bridge following Chelsea’s top-four finish last season, James is eager to embrace the challenge.

He added:

“It’s where the club is meant to be.

“The trend is upwards, and we want to keep that going.”

The Blues will be playing their first game of the season against their London opponent and FA Cup winners, Crystal Palace, at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Chelsea will be decorated as the world champions, a bragging right that will stay with the Blues for four years across the world.
