The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has issued a strong statement of solidarity with Vinícius Júnior following an alleged racist slur during Real Madrid CF’s 1–0 UEFA Champions League win over S.L. Benfica, which led to a 10-minute halt under FIFA’s anti-racism protocol.
Softfootball understands that the event marked another episode in a troubling pattern of racist incidents targeting Vinícius since 2021, including previous monkey chants in Spain.
In a report shared by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, the CBF declared Racism is a crime and unacceptable insisting it cannot exist in football or anywhere else. The federation emphasized that Vinícius is not alone in this fight.
Romano reported as follows:
Brazilian Federation release statement to support Vinicius Jr. “The CBF stands in solidarity with Vinícius Júnior, victim of yet another act of racism this Tuesday, after scoring for Real Madrid against Benfica in Lisbon.” “Racism is a crime. It is unacceptable. It cannot exist in football or anywhere else. Vini, you are not alone.” “Your decision to activate the protocol is an example of courage and dignity. We are proud of you.” “We will remain steadfast in the fight against all forms of discrimination. We stand by your side. Always”.

The Brazilian forward, Vinicius Junior had accused Prestianni of racist abuse and also expressed frustration over being booked for celebrating his goal, saying he still does not understand the decision and believes the protocol was poorly executed and served no purpose.
Meanwhile, Gianluca Prestianni has denied allegations of racist abuse directed at Vinícius Júnior during the February 17, 2026 UEFA Champions League encounter between Real Madrid CF and S.L. Benfica.
