Former AC Milan manager Fabio Capello believes Inter Milan remain the strongest contenders to retain the Serie A title despite trailing league leaders Atalanta heading into the Christmas period.
While acknowledging Inter have not consistently reached the high standards they set in previous campaigns, Capello insists Simone Inzaghi’s side possess the experience and quality needed to reclaim top spot before the end of the season.
Softfootball understands the veteran Italian coach shared his assessment while speaking to Football Italia.Capello said:
They weren’t brilliant and mean as other times, but in the end the success is legitimate. Even if Lautaro continues not to score, Inzaghi remains in pole position for the Scudetto.

The former England manager also praised Atalanta’s remarkable transformation, suggesting last season’s UEFA Europa League triumph has given Gian Piero Gasperini’s side a new winning mentality.
After lifting the Europa League, La Dea seems to have another spirit, another strength in going to take the three points. Winning makes you change your mentality,
he added.
With the Serie A title race finely balanced, Capello expects Inter’s experience to prove decisive as the campaign enters its crucial second half.
