Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon has urged Juventus supporters to remain patient with head coach Thiago Motta, insisting comparisons with former manager Massimiliano Allegri are both unfair and premature.
Motta has experienced a mixed start to his tenure in Turin, leading to growing scrutiny from fans and pundits.
Softfootball understands Buffon believes the former Bologna boss deserves time to implement his ideas before being judged against one of Juventus’ most successful modern managers.
Speaking to La Stampa, Buffon said:
Enough with the comparisons between Motta and Allegri, it’s out of line. One has won a lot, Thiago is just starting out. Anyone who compares them is driven by a desire to upset the club.
The former Juventus and Italy goalkeeper also expressed confidence in Motta’s long-term project, highlighting the challenges that come with rebuilding a squad.
I have great respect for Thiago, and I’m very confident about what he’s building. When you change things so deeply, it takes time,
he added.
Buffon believes patience will be key as Juventus continue adapting to Motta’s philosophy while aiming to return to the summit of Italian football.
