West Bromwich Albion interim manager Chris Brunt has praised Josh Maja’s intelligence and all-round contribution after the Nigerian striker inspired the Baggies to a 3-1 victory over Preston North End, with Softfootball understanding the win lifted Albion back into the Championship play-off places.

Maja scored twice at The Hawthorns to end an eight-match goal drought, taking his tally for the season to 12 goals. His clinical display proved crucial as West Brom secured their first victory since the departure of former manager Carlos Corberán.

Brunt was full of praise for the Super Eagles forward, highlighting the qualities that extend beyond his goalscoring ability. He said:

Nice to see him get on the end of it. His link-up play is so good, he’s an intelligent football player, does a really good job for the team and brings a lot of other attacking threats into the game by dropping into spaces and he did well today.

The result provides a timely boost for West Brom as they continue their push for promotion, with Maja expected to play a key role if the club is to maintain its place in the race for a Premier League return.
