Brighton & Hove Albion were seconds away from securing a fifth straight Premier League opening-day victory, only to be stunned by a late Rodrigo Muniz equaliser as Fulham snatched a 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The Seagulls took control early in the second half when Georginio Rutter was bundled over in the box by Sander Berge. Matt O’Riley calmly converted the resulting penalty in the 55th minute, sending Bernd Leno the wrong way to put Brighton ahead.

Fabian Marc Hürzeler men looked set to see out the win, with Yankuba Minteh wasting a golden chance to double the lead midway through the half. That miss would prove costly. Carlos Baleba who was heavily linked to a move away from Brighton was substituted after 69mins of play for Diego Gomez.
Deep into stoppage time, Fulham forced a corner and made it count. Harry Wilson’s delivery was met by Lewis Dunk, whose defensive header inadvertently fell to substitute Muniz. The Brazilian forward took a touch before drilling a low shot past Bart Verbruggen in the 97th minute, silencing the home crowd.

The dramatic finish means both sides leave the south coast with a point apiece, Brighton sitting fourth and Fulham fifth in the very early table. For Brighton, the draw preserves their unbeaten record on opening weekends, but denies them a fifth consecutive first-day win.
