Ben Doak Completes £25m Transfer from Liverpool to Bournemouth with Buy-Back Clause

Bournemouth have completed the signing of Ben Doak from Liverpool in a deal worth £25 million, with the 19-year-old Scottish winger putting pen to a five-year contract. Liverpool has secured a buy-back clause in the agreement, underlining their long-term belief in Doak’s potential despite allowing him to leave.

Softfootball understands that the move, which includes an initial £20m fee plus £5m in add-ons, was finalised shortly after Doak was left out of Liverpool’s opening-day squad against Bournemouth on August 15, a game Bournemouth lost 4-2 despite Antoine Semenyo’s brilliant brace.

The Scotland international becomes the Cherries’ fourth signing of the summer as Andoni Iraola continues to rebuild his squad following several high-profile departures.

The Cherries announced his sigining with a cheeky video on their official X account.

Doak joined Liverpool from Celtic in 2022 for just £600,000 and made 10 senior appearances before a loan spell at Middlesbrough, where he contributed three goals and seven assists in 24 Championship matches.

Despite flashes of his talent, he struggled for consistent minutes at Anfield, competing with Mohamed Salah for a spot on the right wing.

Liverpool have been busy reshaping their squad, with Doak’s exit marking their eighth sale of the summer. Major departures include Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich (£65.5m) and Darwin Núñez to Al-Hilal (£46.3m), helping push total sales beyond £200m. The inclusion of a buy-back clause in Doak’s deal reflects Liverpool’s intention to keep the door open for a return should he fulfil his considerable potential.

For Bournemouth, Doak’s arrival offsets the loss of winger Dango Ouattara, who joined Brentford in a £42.5m move last week.

The Cherries have been active in the market, already bringing in goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, left-back Adrien Truffert, and centre-back Bafodé Diakité, while January signing Eli Junior Kroupi has also joined up after his loan at Lorient.

Watch Doak officially sign his contract:

Doak, capped six times for Scotland, is expected to provide pace and direct attacking threat in Iraola’s high-energy system. Speaking after completing the move, the teenager expressed excitement about the next step in his career.

Bournemouth are still targeting further additions before the September 1 deadline, with a central defender and striker on the list. For now, Doak’s arrival adds youthful energy to Iraola’s front line, as the Cherries look to push on in the Premier League following their defeat at Anfield.
