Ben Chilwell’s time at Chelsea has officially come to an end after spending five years at the club, with the left-back sealing a permanent move to French side Strasbourg. The England international had not been part of new head coach Enzo Maresca’s long-term vision since his arrival, with the club eager to refresh the squad and move out players who did not fit his system.

Softfootball understands that Chilwell’s exit mirrors Chelsea’s stance on Christopher Nkunku, who also left the club this summer after being shipped out to AC Milan on a permanent deal. Both moves highlight the Blues’ ongoing rebuild as they trim down the squad under Maresca’s leadership.

According to Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, who broke the deadline day news in a short statement via his official X handle, He said :

“EXCLUSIVE: Strasbourg agree deal to sign Ben Chilwell on two year contract, here we go!
Medical done and Chilwell joins ambitious project at Strasbourg with Liam Rosenior with European football.”

The move marks a fresh chapter in the career of Chilwell, who will now link up with manager Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg in what is seen as an ambitious project with European football up for grabs .

Chelsea, meanwhile, continue to shuffle and build their team around Maresca’s philosophy, signaling that more departures and incomings would happen over the next few years as the club pushes forward with its rebuild under the Italian Manager . For Chilwell, however, this move offers a much-needed opportunity to revive his career that has mostly been plagued with injuries over the last few years, in a place away from the spotlight of the premier league.
