Bayern Munich Determined to Secure Dayot Upamecano’s Future, Says Max Eberl

Bayern Munich are not ready to risk losing one of their most important defenders, as Sporting Director Max Eberl insists the club is doing everything possible to keep Dayot Upamecano at the Allianz Arena.

The French defender, now 27, joined the Bavarian side from RB Leipzig back in 2021 for around €42 million, and since then, his progress has been nothing short of impressive. His current deal runs until 2026, but with big European clubs sniffing around, Bayern wants to get a new contract done sooner rather than later. As reported earlier, Max Eberl had admitted to the need to tie the defender to a new contract, as the player was attracting interest from top European clubs.

Speaking to the media, as revealed by sports expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, Eberl spoke with real admiration when describing Upa’s journey, hailing the player’s career as impeccable and also putting him forward as one of the best defenders in the world.

He said:

Bayern director Eberl: We are working and making sure we do everything we can to make Dayot Upamecano sign new contract.

Upa has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the world. He went through a phase where he made a few mistakes. We’ll do everything we can to make sure he stays,

Under Vincent Kompany, Upamecano has been solid, more confident on the ball, and reading the game better than ever. His displays this season, especially against more difficult opposition, have been top-class, showing both grit and maturity in equal measure, and his leadership was in full display when he marshalled Bayern to a 4-1 victory over FC Köln in the German DFB Pokal.

Still, Bayern’s urgency makes perfect sense. Softfootball understands that clubs like Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are watching closely, ready to move if contract talks drag too long. Eberl confirmed that discussions are already happening, saying, ‘They are working on a new deal, as he believes the Frenchman is a big part of the German club’s future.

Right now, Upamecano’s value sits around €70 million, and a new deal will likely come with a raise fitting his stature. For Bayern, it’s about more than just money; it’s about keeping a defender who’s finally living up to his full potential. They’ve built something strong at the back, and losing him now? That’s not even an option.
