Barcelona Cruise Past Oviedo to Reclaim LaLiga Top Spot

3 Min Read

Barcelona responded emphatically to recent disappointment with a dominant 3-0 LaLiga victory over Real Oviedo at Camp Nou, a result that sends them back to the top of the table, Softfootball reports.

After briefly surrendering first place following Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Villarreal, Barça move back into pole position, with just one point separating the two title rivals. The win also marked an important bounce-back after last weekend’s 2-1 defeat away to Real Sociedad, restoring momentum in the title race.

The scoreline ultimately flattered the hosts after a surprisingly awkward first half. Oviedo, rooted to the bottom of the table and without a league win in 14 matches, showed no signs of inferiority early on. They enjoyed spells of possession, competed aggressively for loose balls, and forced Barcelona into a disjointed opening period. Eric García was frequently called into action, while the attacking trio of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal struggled to find rhythm.

Clear chances were limited before the break, with the best falling to Raphinha in stoppage time, only for his volley to be well saved by Aarón Escandell. Frustration rippled around Camp Nou as the teams went in level.

Barcelona emerged from the interval with renewed urgency and quickly asserted control. Seven minutes into the second half, Dani Olmo broke the deadlock with a crisp low finish into the far corner, finally rewarding the hosts’ pressure.

Oviedo’s resistance soon collapsed. A loose back pass from David Costas was ruthlessly punished by Raphinha, who calmly chipped Escandell to double the lead. The contest was effectively settled moments later when Lamine Yamal produced a moment of magic, acrobatically converting Olmo’s cross with a spectacular scissor kick that brought the stadium to its feet.

Barcelona shared via it’s official X handle, Lamine yamal’s celebration alongside his teammates as he scored the third goal to wrap up the game for the Champions. They posted:

From there, Barcelona closed the game out comfortably, underlining their dominance with another convincing home win. It was their eighth home victory of the season by a margin of two goals or more, while Oviedo remain eight points adrift at the foot of the table.

For Barcelona, this was the ideal response to recent setbacks. They return to the summit of LaLiga with confidence restored, fully aware that with just a single point separating them from Real Madrid, there is little room for error as the title race intensifies.
