La Liga giants, Barcelona have officially appointed Joao Amaral as their new head of scouting, replacing Paulo Araujo, with immediate effect.
The 38-year-old Portuguese executive, formerly the technical director at Rio Ave FC, steps into the role as a trusted confidant of Barcelona’s Director of Football, Deco, with whom he shares a longstanding professional relationship.

Softfootball has reliably learned that Araujo has full trust from Deco as they share very close relationship. Before his time at Rio Ave, Amaral worked alongside Deco at D20, the representation and intermediation agency that closed when Deco accepted Joan Laporta’s offer to lead Barcelona’s sporting structure.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed via his X handle that Barcelona have finalised the appointment of João Amaral as their new Head of Scouting, effective immediately. In his post, he wrote:
“Barcelona complete appointment of João Amaral as new Head of scouting with immediate effect.
Former Rio Ave director has full trust from Deco as they share very close relationship”.
Amaral’s arrival marks a strategic step in Barcelona’s mission to strengthen their talent spotting network and stay ahead in the race to identify football’s next big stars. His experience in talent scouting and football department management will likely play a key role in Barça’s future success.
Known for his sharp eye in spotting raw potential, the Portuguese professional has a proven track record in managing scouting operations and building successful player development structures.
With Amaral now in place, Barcelona is aiming to sharpen its competitive edge in the transfer market and ensure that the best emerging talents are wearing the Blaugrana shirt in the years to come.
In an earlier post, softfootball reported that Lamine Yamal scored twice as Barcelona thrash Como 5-0 to win Gamper trophy on Sunday at the Estadi Johan Cruyff in Barcelona.
