Football might be the beautiful game but there’s life after that and Uganda’s Denis Omedi understands this perfectly, that is why he became a Nurse and Prison Officer aside being a player, Softfootball reports.
Omedi made his African Cup of Nations (AFCON) debut at the age of 31 not because he wasn’t a good footballer but because he has missed a lot of opportunities trying to balance studying to be a Nurse and not missing training.

At the ongoing AFCON in Morocco, Omedi finally got his chance as a substitute and grabbed it with both hands with a goal despite Uganda losing 3-1 against Tunisia and in the final Group C game, Nigeria beat Uganda 3-1 to send them packing from the competition.
Denis Omedi took to his official X handle after scoring his goal to become one of the oldest first-time scorers in AFCON history. He said:
A goal on my #afcon2025 debut , a moment to forever reckon. Phillipians 1:6-“He who started a great work in you will carry it up to the day of completion until the day of Jesus Christ ❤️”
However, Uganda’s 1-1 against Tanzania which Softfootball captures in during the AFCON 2025 Group C and D Results Round-Up would have made them happy as they didn’t lose to their bitter rivals.

Speaking to a reporter by the username @isemusan_ Morocco via TikTok as seen on her official handle. He said:
It’s not something easy of course but I graduated. So, right now I work with Uganda Prison Service and at the same time as a prison officer. I did the full nine months training, so I’m a trained officer. At the same time a professional nurse by nature of the job and also a footballer. Of course, the hardest thing was balancing it, as in the line of getting enough time to train then balancing with the work. It wasn’t something easy but then I had to endure, fix my own programs and make sure I attained what I wanted.

Uganda did not make it out of Group C, finishing last with just a point but Africa saw Omedi, a player that epitomises hardwork, strength and determination. Here is the video of his interview shared via @isemusan_’s official TikTok.

Omedi is popularly called Ronaldo back in Uganda because of his explosive style of play and surprisingly, his professional career is just six years old but he has prepared himself for life after football.
